Brighton & Hove National Care Leavers Month 2026 Celebration

Leading The Way: From Experience to Empowerment

Opening the celebration, the Brighton & Hove Care Leavers Forum will share ideas and the change they are creating across Brighton & Hove, including Moments That Matter, a community group set up by care leavers for care leavers, creating opportunities for shared experiences, connection and belonging.

The Brighton book launches of Dr Lisa Cherry OBE's Mole's Move and Dr Rosie Canning & Dr Dee Michell's In Care and Incredible

We're delighted to welcome and host the Brighton & Hove launches of two new books for children and young people with care experience at their heart, from care experienced authors Dr Lisa Cherry OBE and Dr Rosie Canning, with signed copies of both books available to purchase on the day.

Mole's Move by Dr Lisa Cherry OBE follows Mole as she moves to a new family who want to keep her safe, in a gentle story about change, safety and belonging. Lisa will draw on her wider work around trauma, belonging and systems, exploring how children and young people can feel safe, seen and able to belong.

In Care and Incredible by Dr Rosie Canning & Dr Dee Michell introduces 30 care experienced people from around the world, celebrating their lives and contributions across culture, sport, activism and more. Rosie will share the Care Experience & Culture archive, making visible the breadth of care experienced stories and contributions, including an important 19th-century Brightonian author. ❤️

The City Council, Care Leavers Xmas Dinner Team, charities, community groups and organisations supporting care experienced people will share their work, connecting the different strands of our city and weaving a wider web of belonging across Brighton & Hove.

Whether you're care experienced, a child or young person in care, part of a foster family, a friend, supporter, community organisation or professional, join us to connect, create, listen, share and celebrate what's happening across Brighton & Hove, and imagine what else might become possible when we come together.

Thursday 12 November 2026, 4pm - 6.30pm
Brighton & Hove Jubilee Library Conference Hall

Tickets are donation only, helping us keep the gathering accessible while contributing towards the costs of bringing everyone together and raising awareness and funds for Moments That Matter. ❤️
